More about uk bank accounts for non-residents

Can I open a UK bank account as a non-resident?

Yes, non-residents can open a bank account in the UK. Usually this process this process can be a bit more complicated than for residents. As research shows, banks have different requirements and procedures for non-residents, some offer more loyal conditions, and some offer the opposite. However, if you familiarize yourself with the procedure in advance and prepare well, then opening an account as a non-resident will take a minimum of your time and effort.

To open a bank account for a non-resident, do the following:

  1. Select a bank. To choose a loyal bank, we recommend paying attention to banks that have international branches or are known for their international services. For example, HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds, Monzo, Revolut.
  2. Prepare a list of documents: passport or national identity card, proof of address (there may be difficulties here, so it is worth discussing the bank's requirements individually). In addition, some banks may require proof of income or a certificate of employment
  3. Apply online or in the branch. There may be a special application form on the bank's official website. To go to the bank's official website, click on the "More" button opposite the bank on this page.
  4. Use a correspondent bank. Many UK banks work with foreign banks. Therefore, if your local bank has a relationship with a UK bank, this will help and simplify the process of opening an account for you.

You can also place free funds on a savings account.
